The Flying Secretary by MorkelErasmus The Flying Secretary by MorkelErasmus
It is such a rare treat to see the Secretary Bird flying, not even to mention taking off in their awkward way with their long legs. I was fortunate to witness this on a recent trip to the Golden Gate Highlands National Park in the Drakensberg/Maluti mountains in South Africa.

Great capture ! Did you use canon 600mm f/4 for this photo ?

thanks! no, I was actually using the 300mm f2.8 L IS USM (mk1) and the new Canon 2x teleconverter (mk3), it works well as a combo!

The details are so good that I thought you used Canon 600mm f/4 lense! Does the focus move fast with canon 2x III converter ?

obviously the focus slows down a bit...but I still find it as fast or marginally faster than my 100-400mm.

I was using the 100-400 for all my birding and wildlife shots before getting the 300 with both 1.4 (mk2) and 2.0 (mk3) converters.

The 300 with 1.4x TC becomes an excellent 420mm f4 with almost negligible loss of sharpness or AF speed.
The 300 with the new 2.0x TC becomes a very good 600mm f5.6 if the light is fair and your technique is good IMHO
:D

Thank you very much for the answer, I have bought canon 1.4x III and 2X III, I am going to buy a 300mm f/2.8 or 400mm f/2.8:)

I would be very interested to see the results of the new 2x TC with the 400 2.8! :D
Remember that with the NEW generation 300/400 f2.8 due out soon, the new TCs even have a microcomputer that is optimised to give even better results!

I am wainting for the new 300/400 f2.8 to be on the market.(They were supposed to be on the market in March, but it was cancelled because of the tsunami.:)
