King of the Kalahari by MorkelErasmus King of the Kalahari by MorkelErasmus
Simply the most beautiful and imposing male lion I have ever encountered in the wild. Look at that mane! He looks almost like the extinct Barbary Lion. The Kalahari is a special place, and he rules a pride resident around the Kij Kij area of the Nossob river.

Nice! You ever read "Cry of the Kalahari'? It's a book documenting the travel journal of a pair of newlyweds who were one of the first to study of lions and brown hyenas in that region, before it was well known. I highly recommend it! www.amazon.com/Cry-Kalahari-Ma... ( the couple went on to write two other books about similar animal studies, but it's full of their daily struggles as they lived in the Kalahari for several months and nearly starved to death in trying to get enough research together to bring in funding- a total page turner.) I think their work went to Nat Geo?

 I shall call him 'Bones'.

Gotta wonder if that red isn't just leftover from his lunch...?
