Coming Home by MorkelErasmus Coming Home by MorkelErasmus
I've been wanting an image like this for a while. These guys are swift and erratic, but on this occasion I had a vantage point where I could prefocus on the nest and keep my other eye open for when he would return with another "building block" for the nest. The males construct multiple nests pending the approval of his mate. She inspects the home, and if she disapproves, she rips it apart to let it fall in the water below...and he has to start over.

This is an amazing picture!
What species of bird is it?  Where was it taken?
Poor guy....it would take me forever to figure out how to build that--and I have opposable thumbs!
From the lady's point--can't raise the babies in something that will fall.
She could at least leave him the dignity of keeping his hard work in tact.
Then again--the ones who did that clearly did not survive in the gene pool.
Nature can be brutal.
Did this hard worker ever get a lady-bird?

Those female birds sound harsh.... and it always surprised me how they managed to make nests. I tried heaps of times when I was little but I never got the hang of it hehe
