Shrek the Rhino by MorkelErasmus
Shrek the Rhino
A black rhino bull with a dorky expression, just love how animated wildlife can be if you spend enough time with them.

Leopard Patrol by MorkelErasmus
Leopard Patrol
We are just back from a great break to the Sabi Sands in South Africa. I have only really imported all my photos and haven't even had a chance to go through them and filter out the better ones, but just had to share one. This is the Dayone male leopard on patrol, we spent nearly 2 hours with him on our own after all the other guests had "ticked" him off their lists. I can't fathom why people would visit the bush and rush from one sighting to the next - but anyway, we photographers are a different breed eh? Thanks to Leopard Hills Private Game Reserve for this amazing privilege.

Study of a Kalahari King by MorkelErasmus
Study of a Kalahari King
I spent a couple of days being able to photograph a new magnificent male lion that took control of a pride in the Auob river of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in December 2014.

I posted many animalscapes of late, so here's a tight portrait for a change!

South Africa
I have been fascinated with eye-catching and breath-taking photos of the natural world for as long as I can remember. I don't know why it took me so long to pick up my first DSLR camera, but when I did, it all just clicked for me (pun intended). Join me as I share my various experiences in and around the Southern African landscape and wilderness with you...

All my photos portray truly wild animals. No Game Park or Zoo images to be found here.

Current Residence: South Africa
Favourite photographer: Nick Brandt, Marsel van Oosten, Vincent Munier, Arthur Morris, Beverly Joubert
Interests
Hey everyone! Every year I take stock of my photographic journey and this year I took a bit of a different approach. Early in 2014 I resolved to use my wide angle lens more often when I photograph wildlife. No drones, no remote control buggies, no fancy selfie-sticks, just good old cam-to-the-eye photography with a wider perspective. I'd love to know what you think - check it out:
10 out of 100 - my reflection on 2014

Thanks a million for following along on my journey!

I absolutely love your photography! Just out of curiosity, where in South Africa are you from? I'm going to be living there for a few months very soon :)

Hi :)
I've seen your beautiful photographs around dA and I was wondering if you allow them to be used as stock?
There are some beautiful elephant, hippo, and oryx photos that I'd love to draw from if you would allow me.

Respectfully,
-Criss
